Snapchat Review:

Snapchat is a simple app to use and is the best social media app on the market right now. It’s simple and easy to dive into. You can share photos and videos with your followers and friends. The interface is smooth and simple to go through. Your “snaps” are up for no longer than a day, and you can send these snaps privately to your friends.

There are no major differences with Android and the iOS version. One very small difference is camera quality on the iPhone reigns supreme on this particular app. Also the iOS version is more clean and minimalist, and experience fewer crashes than the Android version.

Security and privacy is one of the major worries of Snapchat. It can be concerning knowing that half of what you post can still be seen by the Snapchat team. Knowing this to be true, it can bring a great deal of anxiety for daily users not wanting some of their more private snaps to be exposed to any peering eyes. The Android version of this app camera quality isn’t up to par with the iOS version of this app for some particular reason.

The iOS version shares the same security troubles the Android versions has. Conspiracy theorist has been more extreme on the iOS version due to the iPhone’s fingerprint scanner (even though some Android phones have it). These theorist has claimed to have evidence, of Apple spying to understand current millennial’s consumer psychology. These claims haven’t been proved however.

Snapchat has gotten hugely popular with the millennials and it gains at least 50 million users a year. Snapchat is among the few social media apps that has gained users with ease. Through as little as 3 years, Snapchat has become a "Unicorn" and is now worth over 20 billion dollars and has received numerous amount of funding. Its sudden growth shouldn't surprise anyone, it came right on time, among whistle blowers like Eric Snowden, and internet privacy becoming a recurring topic.

Snapchat most well known feature is that no photo or video stays for more than a day: that's if we take out screenshots and screen-recording. Snapchat came in when Twitter was just at the start of its boom and Instagram was gaining traction. While Twitter and Instagram has a much slower pace to it, Snapchat just proves that a must faster paced social media app was needed.

Intro to Snapchat

How to get to Snapping

Snapchat can be picked up in one day. It’s simple and you learn 80% of it’s features when you first launch the app. And most millennials understand the concept of social media because they have been using it all of their lives. So they can get the hang of it within a couple of minutes. Although this can be a problem for the older generation, that missed the hype-train of Myspace, Facebook, and Instagram. But Snapchat is so simple that more than likely it wouldn’t take the older crowd no longer than a couple of hours to get use to it.

It’s really that simple to get into! That is one thing that I love about this app is that it never over complicate anything. To sign up all you will need to do is give your name, email address, and phone number. After that, you will be sent a sms code to your cellphone which you will need to confirm and just like that you’re in. It’s unusually simple no profile picture, bio, or any other information is needed from you.

After you sign up, which shouldn’t take no more than two minutes, you’re taken to your home screen which is your camera. This is how all of your snaps will be took and sent to your friends for as long as you use the app. Snapchat falls out of the circle of visual cues and small notes that is normally given via: other social media apps. Everything is simply learnt the only visual cues that is given: is one telling you to swipe right to skip a story, swipe left to replay, and swipe down to exit. After that there isn’t any more forms of visual cues, this is when everything is learned by experience and tinkering.

The Snap

All photos and videos taken of you can be shared through your friends and followers privately or publicly. These videos or photos will leave your page no longer than a day. To takes pictures a simple click on the broadcast button ,and for videos hold the broadcast button (the videos can’t be no longer than 15 seconds).

These snaps can be sent to your friends privately and will be seen for a short period of time before it deletes itself (of course if your friend doesn’t screenshot it). Every Snapchat have something they call stories ,and these stories can be skipped or you can exit it. And if you liked a certain Snapchat story you can replay it as many times as you are pleased before they are deleted. This has been stated before but its important to know that at least 7 billion “snaps” are viewed, and even more viewed more than once, a day so buyer beware.

The photos or videos that you send can have filters. These filters are unlike Twitter or Instagrams filters; they are actually interactive and animated filters that tracks your face. These filters can create some funny gags or enhance a regular average everyday video or photo. These filters can also tell a story without you saying much like a filter with your current location in a cool image box. The filters can bring a personality to your snaps and make it as your own.

Security and Privacy

S*xting is what originally led Snapchat to it’s fame. But not saying this still doesn’t happen often it has decreased. While this can be considered good, it also bring some cons. Don’t get me wrong; I’m happy that s*xting on Snapchat is decreasing but there is a good reason behind it.

Recently Snapchat has gained some scrutiny, this controversy comes from reports of the Snapchat team viewing for signs of terrorism. This recent news led most millennials, because they are a huge percent of the s*xters, to tone down what they display. Depending on your views of the current status of terrorism spreading through social media, this can bring a sigh of relief to some or bring anxiety to others. Relief for those knowing that certain targeted people on the FBI’s “Watchlist” Snaps are being reviewed in case of terrorist information, but anxiety for those that don’t know if they are on the list or not.

Privacy can also be breached by hackers, because, Snapchat don’t delete most of the data we don’t see. But we should know by now that on the internet nothing is truly private, so if you plan on sexting or being a terrorist don’t do it on Snapchat.
